Simone Veil EsplanadeNoisy-le-Sec (93)

Project Description
The transformation of the town center of Noisy-le-Sec in the aftermath of the Second World War created an urban collage lacking structure. The city center, fragmented and disparate, does not truly exist. Large housing complexes and public facilities coexist on a fragmented base: from a 19th-century notarial house converted into an art center to the mid-20th-century slabs and towers, and new public facilities such as the media library, the theater, the town hall, or the market square.
In this urban context, where buildings no longer define the quality of public space, nature brings new coherence through a precise composition of various landscape textures, plants, trees, and rocks. Only a "park-city" urbanism can repair these spaces.
A new ecosystem emerges, reconciling the city with its original foundation, capable once again of hosting life. A natural stone ground connects the spaces with precise leveling. Rocks establish a geology that absorbs elevation changes and offers seating and play areas for children. Vegetation flourishes in groves. The place regains human scale through greenery that softens the built environment. Pathways are simplified, the use of space becomes more comfortable, and new opportunities arise, creating a shared, inclusive place appropriable by all, a town center that is now friendly and welcoming.
