Historical CenterSancerre (18)

Project Description
Perched on a promontory overlooking the Loire River by several hundred meters, at the junction of the Cher, Nièvre, and Loiret rivers, the town of Sancerre offers an exceptional view of its vineyards and the riverbanks. Voted "France’s Favorite Village" in 2021, Sancerre is currently undergoing an ambitious urban renovation project. This program, focused on the southern part of the promontory, includes the rehabilitation of three small squares, redesigned with newly planted trees and urban furniture. The aim is to create a peaceful, comfortable, and attractive city center for residents.
Sancerre's renowned terroir is distinguished by a unique geological fault and magnetic node. The promontory is crossed by this fault, which separates two geological formations: flint and limestone. These two geologies are integral to the Sancerre wine terroir and are reflected in the wine's aromas.
The project thus highlights, in its treatment of the land, the history of this geological fault that traverses the promontory.
