Rhônelle ParkMarly (59)

Project Description
The City of Marly is embarking on an ambitious transformation with the creation of the Rhônelle urban park. This project aims to breathe new life into a currently fragmented and underused space, turning it into an emblematic and central location for the town and beyond.
Located near Valenciennes, Marly benefits from a rich natural and cultural heritage. The city is traversed by several rivers, including the Rhônelle and the Escaut, and is part of a green network connected to regional natural areas such as the Mormal Forest and the Scarpe-Escaut Nature Park. This project aims to transform this area, currently perceived as a "no-man’s land," into an attractive and identity-building park.
The project revolves around three main focuses:
- The natural park: The Rhônelle will be highlighted through the creation of dead arms, ponds, and archipelagos that promote biodiversity. Some areas will be left to evolve naturally to encourage the development of local ecosystems.
- The recreational park: Strategic zones will be developed to connect different neighborhoods in Marly. These spaces will allow for interactions among residents, transforming the park into a place of conviviality and passage.
- The agricultural park: An urban farm will be created to strengthen the connection between the city and the countryside. Market gardening, shared gardens, picking, and environmental education will provide evolving uses for this space.
This park will be much more than a green space. It will become a passageway, a bridge between neighborhoods, and a living space adaptable to the seasons and events. Combining ecology, leisure, and urban agriculture, the future Rhônelle Park will be an exemplary project for Marly and the Valenciennes region.
