Cap de la HèveSainte-Adresse (76)

Project Description

At the tip of Sainte-Adresse, Cap de la Hève overlooks the Seine estuary and the sea. On the plateau, the semaphore, the lighthouse and the casemates watch over a land's-end landscape of heath, meadows and cliffs. The study proposes to restore the nature of this protected site and to open it better to walkers, without taking anything away from its strength.

On the plateau, the heath and the tall meadow regain their place; light paths cross them to the cliff edge, where a viewpoint juts out over the void, facing Le Havre and the open sea. Round lawns welcome picnics and kites, the casemates are enhanced and tell their story, and a pavilion at the foot of the semaphore becomes the cape's welcome point.

Below, a promenade follows the foot of the cliff and joins the Sainte-Adresse seafront: a long continuous ribbon, punctuated by masts and lawns, links the beach, the town and the cape. The site is part of a broader reflection on the plateau, where landscape links the neighbourhood of the former merchant navy school with this great natural area.
