Rougeau ForestSeine-Port-St-Pierre-du-Perray (77) - Morsang-sur-Seine (91)

Project Description
The Rougeau Forest is bordered by the Seine to the south and west, and by the Brie Melunaise plateau to the north and east. It plays a crucial role in the continuity of major biodiversity reservoirs, especially along the Seine, and is part of a vast network of forests and natural spaces in the green belt surrounding Île-de-France. One of the project's main goals is to raise awareness of this forest, which is connected to public transportation networks, particularly the RER, to alleviate overcrowding in the more frequently visited forests of Sénart and Fontainebleau.
Three major landscapes stand out: the Seine landscape, the agricultural and urban edge landscape, and the landscape of ponds and the Pavillon Royal. Each of these landscapes is highlighted, treated as a folly or a focal point of attraction and activity within the forest.
To design the agricultural edge to the north, the project draws inspiration from the excellent work by OMA, which reimagines the agricultural gap between the forests of Sénart and Rougeau.
The forest’s evolution and transformations are planned over time with a detailed management plan. This includes the clearing of a large terrace overlooking the Seine. The management plan is based on the concept of a "parquet," a surface and time unit corresponding to 10 hectares and a century—reflecting the long lifespan of trees in the forest.
