Prairies BlockNancy (54)

Project Description

Located in the floodplain of the Meurthe River, at the foot of the bridge leading to Tomblaine, Îlot des Prairies is a neighborhood that, despite its good public transportation connections to the Place Stanislas, feels detached from the city. Its proximity to an industrial area and a sports park, coupled with the poor quality of urban routes linking it to the city, isolates it.

The project's goal is to reintegrate this neighborhood into the city, reinforcing its sense of belonging. This will be achieved through a new crossing over the sports park.

Various urban forms, housing typologies, and a diversity of public spaces were considered. A square is created, aligned with the bridge and the new sports path, animated by ground-level commercial spaces. A tower connects with the wider landscape and provides distant views of the valley. Row houses and small collective buildings on stilts surround a large central garden, reminiscent of a beguinage.

The Îlot des Prairies neighborhood becomes a welcoming place, open to the city and its river, marking a new gateway to the city of Nancy and reflecting its geography.
