Buttes-Chaumont ParkParis (75)

Project Description

The Parc des Buttes-Chaumont is the grand park of eastern Paris, one of the emblematic parks from the transformation of Paris in the 19th century. Designed by engineer Adolphe Alphand and landscape architects Jean-Pierre Barillet-Deschamps and Édouard André, it covers an area of 25 hectares. This park is situated on a former gypsum quarry, and the quarry's rock face remains visible. The park's design follows the "English-style" landscaping, which was popular in the mid-19th century.

The project focuses on the redevelopment of the Fessard Hill (butte Fessard) to the south of the park, including the installation of a kiosk. Drawing from a detailed understanding of the hill's history and the various layouts that have existed over time, a pedestrian promenade (mail) is proposed with a kiosk to maintain current activities. The design carefully adjusts all elements of the project based on viewpoints from below or as one ascends, fine-tuning aspects like tree height, trunk size, canopy size, and tree species.
