Agricultural District

To the south of the Nancy metropolitan area, spanning across three municipalities, opportunistic land development has led to the creation of housing estates and commercial and industrial zones. Agriculture is no longer viable in this valley and on these slopes, between these inward facing built structures. It is necessary to propose a project that addresses the entire territory, both built and unbuilt: artificial, cultivated, grazed, natural, playful… This leads to the invention of a new form of urbanism: agricultural urbanism.
This project offers an innovative interpretation of the ZAN (Zero Net Artificialization) law, addressing inhabited, cultivated, and productive spaces simultaneously, thinking of the city and countryside as a continuum, with a pedestrian network that allows passage through vegetable plots and recreational parks.
In partnership with the Chamber of Agriculture, micro-farms of about one hectare could be established in this new neighborhood, in the heart of the blocks. An agricultural center creates the major public space of the neighborhood, but also of surrounding developments that lack genuine public spaces.
The programming for this area targets both new farmers and residents through the establishment of a veterinarian, an agricultural machinery mechanic, and gardens, as well as AMAPs (Associations for the Maintenance of Peasant Agriculture), processing facilities, local businesses (cafes, restaurants, newsagents...), creating a new village center in this archipelago city.
