Horizons NeighborhoodCherbourg-en-Cotentin (50)

Project Description

The Horizons Neighborhood, despite being fragmented by the topography, possesses a strong identity tied to its geographic location and the quality of its surrounding environment.

The project draws inspiration from various horizons.
The low horizon focuses on the park of the former René Lebas maritime and military hospital, immersing visitors in historical gardens, unique plant species that define Cherbourg’s identity, and revealing the rear façade of this foundational building.
The intermediate horizon offers a view of the singular geography, particularly the Roule Mountain and the sunrise, providing an atmospheric and scenic connection to the land.
Finally, the maritime horizons provide sweeping views of the sea, the harbor, and the outer port of Cherbourg, creating a distinctive maritime atmosphere for the neighborhood.

The design of the public spaces in the neighborhood is closely tied to these distant perspectives, which lend a strong identity to the area and rhythmically guide the movement through the space.
