Les Fleurs DistrictCarrières-sous-Poissy (78)

Project Description

At the heart of the Chanteloup bend of the Seine, the Les Fleurs district is explored on foot, path after path, between wide lawns, birches, willows, pines and lime trees. Built in the early 1970s, it offers its residents a generous landscape: every home opens onto a canopy, every walkway crosses a clearing. The urban study carried out for the Grand Paris Seine & Oise urban community and the social landlord EFIDIS set out to reveal and extend this existing quality.

The diagnosis brought to light a subtle composition behind the network of paths: a great openness towards neighbouring districts, a central walkway linking public facilities, a large shared space at the heart of the site and, around it, more intimate open spaces recalling the idea of courtyards. Lawns create thresholds in front of the homes, single trees and groves give rhythm to the walk, tree lines accompany the streets.

At the scale of the territory, the district is becoming central. A network of parks is taking shape around it, from the Parc du Peuple de l'Herbe to the banks of the Seine, and the study proposes extending these continuities into Les Fleurs: cross-cutting soft-mobility links towards the river, a north-south connection between the lakes, and a central mall whose sections explore both a pedestrian version and one shared with cars.

Keeping the shade of the trees, the coolness of the soil and its ability to absorb rainwater, opening views to the wider landscape, supporting everyday uses: the project sketches a district where people go on living in the landscape, more closely connected to the town and to the Seine.
