Montconseil ParkCorbeil-Essonnes (91)

Project Description
Overlooking the valleys of the Seine and Essonne rivers, Parc Montconseil is located on the heights of Corbeil-Essonnes and offers distant views of the Sénart Forest. With a 12-meter elevation difference between its upper and lower parts, the park, originally isolated, has been redeveloped to highlight its unique topography. A large terrace, dotted with groves, provides a viewpoint that dominates the landscape and offers a better understanding of the city's layout.
The challenge of integrating the park into the slope led to the creation of open vistas towards the forest and surrounding neighborhoods. The terraces, connected by a wide mineral path, are designed for various uses such as sports, picnics, strolls, children's play areas, or simply enjoying the view. They offer a playful journey through the park with varied, non-linear pathways. At the heart of the park, a winding path links the children's play grove to a wall on the terrace, decorated with a red ceramic frieze designed by colorist Alexandra Verga.
A river, which manages the stormwater runoff from Montconseil, runs through the site, bordered by trees. It reveals the unique geology of the location, built on an outcropping clay layer that feeds local springs. The project captures this water and channels it into a large hydraulic network composed of basins, creating a rich diversity of wetland ecosystems that contrast with the drier areas of the terraces. Vegetation, particularly willows, alders, ashes, sedges, and reed grass, enhances the park's natural feel.
The park offers a new natural setting, with varied atmospheres blending light, shade, and freshness, from the sun-drenched main terrace to the more shaded play and relaxation areas in the groves.
