Clamart town centreClamart (92)

Project Description

Clamart is lucky enough to have a town centre on the edge of the forest. The study for the redevelopment of the town centre starts from this edge: bringing the forest into the town. The streets leading to the woods are planted more densely and become "park streets", lined with groves, where cars become discreet and people walk beneath the trees. Little by little, an urban and forest landscape takes shape, guiding walkers from the centre to the forest, and from the forest back to the centre.

At the heart of this wooded network, the squares open up like clearings. They are cleared to restore views and answer one another. Place de la Mairie is enlarged and comes alive around a dry fountain; the forecourts of the church and the town hall showcase their architecture. In front of the new public building, a shared forecourt and a small garden welcome the school and the neighbourhood. "Inhabited carpets" frame café terraces in summer and become play areas in winter.

Parks complete the network. The conservatory park, a link between the forest and the town, hosts beehives, flowering meadows and play areas; the convent garden can become a new public park. Benches, viewpoints and framed views of the landscape punctuate the walks.
